Archdiocese Confronts Global Warming: Many New Jobs to be Created

.
The Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis is launching a parish-based effort to find practical, socially equitable and close-to-home solutions to global warming.

The drive will organize parishioners to study global warming and develop ways to confront it in the community and through changes in public policy, said Matt Rezac, public policy manager for the archdiocese's Office for Social Justice.

The Global Warming Action Team will be similar to groups that have been working on housing and welfare issues in the archdiocese for years, Rezac said. It is one of six global-warming initiatives in the country to have been funded recently by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, which in 2001 called for immediate action to address climate change.

An unnamed chancery official of the archdiocese in St Paul has informed Stella Borealis that the no longer needed and currently rented St Gregory's parish building in St Paul's Highland Park will become the home of the new Global Warming Research Center with upwards of 1,300 employees.

The activites of the center will center around research into cold fusion, hydrogen fuel technologies and the industrial recycling of asbestos and arsenic, dangerous pollutants found in substantial quantities around the Twin Cities metropolitan area.

The generous USCCB grant will fund a substantial portion of the budget and very little will need to be cut from Catholic Charities, as was previously thought. The Global Warming Project is number 18 of the 43 projects planned for 2007.

The USCCB has assured the chancery that their studies have shown that there will be little or no threat to the neighboring residents of the Global Warming Project. And the 12 story building to be built to accomodate the new employees will blend subtly with adjacent homes.

The increase in job opportunities for employment of newly created PhDs is number 3 on 1907 project list. Number 1 is a new chancery building with a better view of the Mississippi River and number 2 is better selections in the vending machines in the employee cafeteria.

This cannot be true. It cannot. I think this has got to be the most bizarre thing I ever read. EVER. What next? What next? What has this possibly to do with anything Catholic? I am shocked and done. No more appeals no more anything for these NUTS. These people are nuts. Did they hire my dad? (he votes for Nader every chance he gets--he is also a vehemently anti-God --a step beyond atheism) I will never again pay any attention to the Bishops conference and anything they say. They have lost their collective minds. Who are they? What are they smoking? It is very hard to be a Catholic. They make it harder every day to respect them at all. Ray please tell us they planted this story and just mis-placed it in October for April Fools???!!! I cannot believe it.
