This is in violation of the U.S. Bishops teaching that no honors ever be given by our Catholic institutions to those who support and promote the killing of innocent human beings through abortion. This is truly a sad day for the famous university dedicated to our Blessed Mother.
SIOUX CITY, IA (Catholic Online) - As a part of a larger article written for the "Catholic Globe", the Most Reverend R. Walker Nickless added his voice to the growing crescendo of voices opposing the invitation by the University of Notre Dame to President Barack Obama to address their 2009 graduates and receive an honorary Doctor of Law Degree. The Bishop wrote:
SADNESS AT NOTRE DAME
"I know many of you join me in surprise and anger that the University of Notre Dame - which for many is “the” example of a Catholic University - through its president, Father John Jenkins, has invited the most pro-abortion president of the United States not only to give the commencement address this year, but also to receive an Honorary Law Degree.
"This is in violation of the U.S. Bishops teaching that no honors ever be given by our Catholic institutions to those who support and promote the killing of innocent human beings through abortion. This is truly a sad day for the famous university dedicated to our Blessed Mother.
"I encourage those who care to write to Father Jenkins and express their displeasure with this invitation. May Father Jenkins have the courage to rescind this invitation and not be afraid of the possible embarrassment by admitting that he has made a bad decision.
"Catholic institutions of higher learning must always be places where the Catholic values we hold so dearly will always be supported and promoted - not where the culture of death is allowed to be honored or valued. Let us pray for those who work so hard to keep our Catholic institutions truly Catholic in all they do to promote the gospel of life.
"May this Lent bring us to accept the need for a renewal of our entire faith, and the desire to live only in and through our Lord Jesus Christ, in His Church and in all His holy sacraments! Pray for me, and know that I continue daily to pray for all of you.
Your brother in Christ,
Most Reverend R. Walker Nickless, Bishop of Sioux City

Drop Bishop Nickless a note of encouragement. That whole column was good. I knew him as a priest in Denver. God Bless him.
What's with the ALL CAPITALS ALL THE TIME on this blog?
So apparently we want to turn Notre Dame into a Bible College? We seem to be hell bent on returning the Roman Catholic Church back to the days of the Inquisition. If Catholics are not right on church doctrine - excommuication and/or burning at the stake appears to be the appropriate punishment. As always, I have faith that Jesus himself would be considerably more tolerant.
Apostate Paul:
Jesus might not be as tolerant as you expect:
Matthew 25:41-43
Next he will say to those on his left hand, "Go away from me, with your curse upon you, to the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you never gave me food; I was thirsty and you never gave me anything to drink; I was a stranger and you never made me welcome, naked and you never clothed me, sick and in prison and you never visited me."
Mark 16:16
"Go out to the whole world; problem the Good News to all creation. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; he who does not believe will be condemned."
Warren:
Most people do not see All Caps on their browsers. Are you using Google Crome? I have received two other complaints about that, one from a good friend.
I'll do some research and see if there is anything I can do to stop that. But that is not the way I set up my pages.

Apostate Paul,
By honoring Obama, they are honoring someone who promotes the most anti-Catholic policies. Would you rather have Notre Dame be like the Lutheran colleges, where they are Lutheran in name only? Would you expect an African-American college to honor someone who believes and works to make Blacks second-class ciitizens?
