Anti-poverty panel gives the poor a voice

As the usual government agencies, nonprofits, schools and faith-based groups put their heads together Wednesday at an all-day workshop addressing ways to help the poor, they got company from [Don] Oden and about a dozen other "low-income fellows" who spoke with authority.

Oden's table included people like Earl Schwartz, a Hamline University religion professor, and Gerald McLemore, an ex-felon and member of the X Committee, a St. Paul coalition for the homeless.

Community Action Partnership of Ramsey and Washington Counties convened the event, which drew about 100 participants to St. Pascal's Catholic Church on St. Paul's East Side. A similar workshop was held in January.[snip] Read More in the Pioneer Press
