This is the crosier that will be used by Archbishop Vincent Nichols in London when he is installed in a few hours (1:00 p.m. CDT) as Archbishop of Westminster, the leader of the Catholic Church in England and Wales.
One of the faithful readers of Stella Borealis keeps me appraised as to the style of crosiers used by the bishops who have been recently appointed by Pope Benedict. It is his theory, and it is his, and one I fully subscribe to, that the "shepherd's crook" style is an indication that the new bishop will be a good solid Catholic, devoid of experimentation impulses.
God bless Archbishop Nichols!
