Family Prayer and Rosary for Advent -- 1 of 6 -- (St. Andrew Bible Missal)

.
The Saint Andrew Bible Missal from Belgium came out in 1963, right prior to the Second Vatican Council. They probably didn't recover their costs as the Novus Ordo Mass in English quickly succeeded it. A 2008 review of older missals in print gave a rave review to the 1954 version of the St. Andrew Missal. The review was found in a blog from Singapore linked to by Father Z.

Family Prayer and Rosary for Advent

We suggest that during this season the following Scripture passages be included in family prayers. Any method could be used, although what is given below follows the historical sequence of events.

The selections are really based on the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary. A reading could be given before one of the mysteries every time that the Rosary is prayed.

1. Annunciation

Luke 1: 26-38 (Narrative of the Annunciatiion)
Isaiah 7: 10-14 (Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son)
1 Chronicles 17: 3-15 (God announces to David the good news)
Genesis 18: 1-14 (The annunciation to Abraham and Sara)

2. Visitation

Luke 1: 39-45 (account of the Visitation)
2 Kings 6: 1-19 (The ark is brought to Jerusalem)
Isaiah 40: 1-10 (Prepare ye the way of the Lord)
John 1: 19-23 (The role of John the Baptist)

3. Birth of Our Lord

Micah 5: 1-5 (But you, Bethlehem, out of you shall be born one who is to rule over Israel)
Luke 2: 1-20 (A decree went forth from Caesar Augustus. . . .)
Galatians 4: 1-7 (God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the Law. . . .)
Phillipians 2: 6-11 (He humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.)

4. Presentation

Luke 2: 22-32 (He is destined for the fall and for the rising of many in Israel)
Hebrews 9: 6-14 (The entrance of Christ into the true temple)
John 2: 13-23 (Christ is the true Temple)
John 3: 16-21; 12: 36-36, 45-40 (Christ fulfills the prophecy of Simeon concerning the Light)

5. Finding of Our Lord in the Temple

Luke 2: 41-50 (And he went down with them and was subject to them)
John 12: 44-50 (Primacy of the Father's will in the life of Christ)
1 Corinthians 2: 6-16 (The wisdom of Christ surpasses all worldly wisdom)
Ephesians 5:21-25; 6: 1-4 (Ideal of the Holy Family)

Are you hinting for Christmas presents already?

Well, that was going to be tomorrow's post, but as long as you mention it, I'm a size 40 short, my favorite color is "burnt umber", I prefer really old scotches and Chateau Neuf de Pape Rhone wines from 1996 or 1998 and Montecristo No. 4 Cuban Havana cigars.

But inasmuch as a guy like yourself probably has an urgent need to get into the confessional box, I'll jump ahead to Ordinary Time to do my bit to save your immortal soul.

You can probably get over to OLL where they have Confession on Sunday nights before the 7:15 Mass.

If you need the Ordinary Time Examin, I could post it now and you could still be there on time.
