An Important Request from Archbishop John Nienstedt on Health Care

.
The U.S. Senate version of health care reform (H.R. 3590) is tragically flawed in its current form.

First, it requires that each state offer a plan to include abortion coverage. Second, it provides tax support of enrollment costs for private plans that cover abortions. Third, it authorizes the Secretary of Health and Human Services to allow for abortion coverage in a proposed “public option.” The overall public and private option plans, therefore, will permit abortion coverage that will be paid for by taxpayer dollars.

I urge our Catholic people and our esteemed friends to contact their representatives in the Senate and House to protest these radical changes to present legislative limitations on federally funded abortions and demand that this legislation not be passed in its present form.

A “health care program” that permits the killing of babies in the womb is a contradiction in logic and a moral abomination. The Catholic Spirit
