Michaelangelo's Pieta Replica to Remain at Cathedral and Shrine of St. Paul

.
The replica of Michelangelo's Pietà will remain at the Cathedral of Saint Paul, National Shrine of the Apostle Paul permanently, thanks to a generous donor who wishes to remain anonymous.

The life size sculpture depicts the Virgin Mary holding the body of her son Jesus Christ after his death. The marble casting of the original sculpture in St. Peter’s Basilica, Rome, has been available for public viewing beginning Ash Wednesday, February 17, in the Sacred Heart Chapel.

I wonder where they will put it?

I just found out that the statue will be placed in the Founder's Chapel.

Where is that, Terry? It would be nice if they could place it "in the round" so that people could see all sides of it. That is the way it is placed in the Sacred Heart chapel now.

I wonder if the "synthetic" material the replica is formed from can be touched over long period of time without degradation. The sense of touch is very powerful.

I appreciated the ability to run my hands over portions of the statue on my visit.

I still can "feel" the coolness of one of the pillars of the Cathedral of Chartres when I visited there in 1987.

I stood on tiptoe as high as I could to perhaps touch the palm-print of one of the original builders Unlikely, but I can still sense/feel the coolness and roughness of the stone.

Ray - it is off to the left as you enter the from doors - opposite the Baptismal chapel.

Sorry - front doors.
