Bishop-elect Kennedy joins list of many with ties to UST

The June 30 announcement of Father Arthur Kennedy, a former faculty member at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, as an auxiliary bishop of Boston was the latest addition to the list of bishops who have ties to St. Thomas and the St. Paul Seminary School of Divinity.

The Vatican also announced June 30 that Bishop Blase Cupich, a 1971 St. Thomas alumnus who has served as bishop of Rapid City, S.D., since 1998, will serve as the new bishop of Spokane, Wash.

According to St. Thomas, other bishops who have ties to the school and St. Paul Seminary School of Divinity include the following:

» Bishop John Kinney of St. Cloud, a 1963 St. Paul Seminary alumnus.
» Bishop Richard Pates of Des Moines, Iowa, a 1965 St. Paul Seminary alumnus.
» Archbishop Robert Carlson of St. Louis, a 1966 St. Paul Seminary alumnus.
» Bishop Peter Christensen of Superior, Wis., a 1981 St. Thomas alumnus and a 1985 St. Paul Seminary alumnus
» Bishop Lee Piché of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, a 1980 St. Thomas and 1984 St. Paul Seminary alumnus.
» Bishop Paul Sirba of Duluth, a 1982 St. Thomas alumnus and a 1986 St. Paul Seminary alumnus.
» Bishop Paul Etienne of the Diocese of Cheyene, 1986 alumnus.
» Bishop Alexander Sample of Marquette, Mich.
