Wanted: Prospective Tenant for School Building

Cathy of Alex here. Hi!

The Church of St. John in St. Paul, Minnesota has a serious financial shortfall of ($118,951) from the FY just ended on 6/30/2008.

This is Father George Welzbacher's parish. Father Welzbacher is known to many in this Archdiocese as a: solid theologian, gifted speaker, encourager of vocations, excellent confessor, learned man, and faithful servant of God. Beyond the Archdiocese, he is known to Catholic blogdom as a friend of Father John Zuhlsdorf (usually referred to as "Father G.W." in Father Zuhlsdorf's writings).

I've attended Mass at St. John a few times. The Mass is well done. The small congregation, by my observation, is always very humble, reverent and friendly. The parish did better, financially, last year than in prior years. But, it is a tiny parish with many members of limited income.

Father Welzbacher says, and the P&L statement he shared confirms this, that the school building is the source of most of their expenditures. This is the building that, years ago, housed the St. John school. In recent years, it hosted other entities who rented space but don't any longer. It would be MOST beneficial if a major tenant for the rest of the building could be found.

Father said they have a prospective tenant but, at this point, nothing is certain. It's always great to have options, so if you know of anyone who may be interested in the building contact Deacon Terry Schneider at the parish office: 651-771-3690.

I'm sure any donations or prayers would not be unwelcome either.

St. John is located at 977 E 5th St. St. Paul MN 55106
