Argument of the Month Club: St John Vianney: Warrior Priest in the Battle for Souls - Tuesday

.
Our AOTM host, Fr. John Echert, will speak Tuesday, March 9, at the AOTM regular event on the Patron Saint of Priests, in this Year of the Priest, St. John Vianney, the Cure' of Ars.

Our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI has declared June 2009 through June 2010 as the Year for Priests and also designated Saint John Vianney as the patron of this special year and patron of all priests. What is so remarkable about this simple parish pastor that has elevated him to the rank of canonized saint and patron of all priests? How can such a sickly individual who lived on nothing but boiled potatoes and milk be regarded as a warrior for souls? What was the strategy of this pastor by which he transformed an unknown and obscure village church into a pilgrim site for tens of thousands of Catholics every year during his own lifetime? What would Saint John Vianney have to say about modern American culture and common practice? What advice would this simple-minded student have for seminarians and young priests of today? What did the devil himself have to say about the Cure' of Ars and what sort of torments did the evil one inflict upon this doctor of souls for thirty-five years of his priestly ministry? Find answers to these and other questions and come prepared to argue with an ardent Vianney enthusiast, Father John Echert, if you dare!
