Fr. David Hennen of Buffalo's St. Francis Xavier to be new State Senate Chaplain

The Rev. David Hennen, a Catholic priest from St. Francis Xavier parish in Buffalo, will be the new state Senate chaplain.

He'll be formally nominated Tuesday by Senate Majority Leader Amy Koch, who is from Buffalo. The Senate chaplain traditionally comes from the majority leader's place of worship.

A bio from Senate Republican caucus says:

A native of Watkins, Minnesota, Father Hennen was raised on a family farm and later graduated from Eden Valley-Watkins High School. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from the University of St. Thomas and worked as a software developer for a variety of corporations in the Twin Cities metro area.

Father Hennen attended St. Paul Seminary at the University of St. Thomas where he studied to become a Catholic priest. In May of 2005, he was ordained to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis. After ordination, Father Hennen was assigned to Epiphany Catholic Church in Coon Rapids as an Associate Pastor. In June of 2008, he was then assigned as Pastor of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Buffalo, where he currently resides.

The Rev. Kevin McDonough, another Catholic priest, had been Senate chaplain since 2007 while Sen.Larry Pogemiller was majority leader. MinnPost
