A Feminist's Journey, or: Can We Call Off the War Now?

Sharon of Clairity's Place has some thoughts on the state of feminism today:

Naomi Wolf became a famous feminist of the Third Wave with the publication of her 1991 international bestseller The Beauty Myth. There she observed the insecurities of women about their bodies in comparison with media portrayals and took on the cosmetics industry. In her book, she attributed this assault on self-image to society's backlash against women's progress.

Whether or not the victims of the advertising industry are principally women and specifically designed to keep them at home, the observations were alarming and have not gone unnoticed by the general public.

In 1995, Wolf took on the pro-choice stalemate in a thoughtful piece in The New Republic. She defined the problem with the feminist position as sidestepping the ethical position.[snip]
