Indians For Life and SD Atty. Gen. Fight Pine Ridge Abortion Plans

South Dakota, Pierre: For those not familiar with the Indian Reservation System, it is an independent nation of its own and is not subject to the laws of the State surrounding its lands. It is free to pass its own laws. In view of the recent Pro-Life law passed in South Dakota which permits abortions only in the case of a threat to the mother’s life, the Oglala Sioux Tribal President, Cecilia Fire Thunder, has vowed to open a Planned Parenthood abortion business on the Pine Ridge Reservation in western South Dakota. She is being fought by Clementine Little Hawk Hernandez, the founder of Indians For Life, who states that her people have traditionally favored pro-life values. Additionally, the State Attorney General states that, it would be illegal for the tribe to perform abortions on any non-tribal member, since the separate territory of a Reservation has no jurisdiction over non-tribal members. This is a Take Action, Voice Your Opinion to: Oglala Sioux Tribe, Attn: President Fire Thunder, P.O. Box 2070, Pine Ridge, South Dakota 57770. Thanks to Catholic Newsnet
