Scholastica to Open Campus in Rochester

.
The College of St. Scholastica has responded to Rochester's call for more higher education options. The Duluth-based liberal arts college will offer night classes in Rochester beginning this fall for students earning accelerated degrees in computer information systems, nursing, management, marketing, accounting and organizational behavior.

The Catholic-affiliated college will join other private schools with satellites in Rochester, such as the Milwaukee-based Cardinal Stritch University and the Minneapolis-based Augsburg College.

St. Scholastica President Larry Goodwin said the college is a good fit for Rochester, mentioning that it has the second or third largest nursing program in Minnesota. "And, we've done physical therapy and occupational therapy, health information management and electronic records. So, it makes sense for us with those emphases in health care to be in Rochester and to make some connections with that community, simply because that's what Rochester is known for," he said.

So far, 20 students have applied for programs at the Rochester location. Collette Garrity, St. Scholastica's vice president for extended studies and market development, said she anticipates 20 and 25 students for the fall semester.

St. Scholastica is leasing classroom space from Rochester Central Lutheran School. The college expects employ 20 to 25 adjunct faculty and four staff members in Rochester, Garrity said. Grand Forks Herald
