Dominican Sister Perpetua Stang is the 16th religious vocation in Minnesota family

.
When Dominican Sister Perpetua Stang, a native of St. Nicholas, took her final vows in Nashville, Tenn., she was also taking a significant step in her life. But she wasn’t alone. Sister Perpetua was following in the footsteps not only of members of her Dominican community, but of many blood-related relatives as well.

Sister Perpetua is the 16th descendent of the late Joseph and Theresa (Hemmesch) Lieser family to enter into the religious life. Family members have entered several orders including the Crosiers, Benedictines and Franciscans, and now, Dominicans.

Before Sister Perpetua was born, her great-grandparents, Joseph and Theresa Lieser were strong supporters and advocates of religious life. It was a legacy handed down to subsequent generations.

“They had a strong respect for religious sisters and priests,” said Father Greg Lieser, a grandchild of Joe and Theresa and pastor of St. Peter Parish in St. Cloud, Minn.

That respect was manifested by actions as well as words. Along with being parents, grandparents and great-grandparents of people in religious life, Joe and Theresa Lieser paid for schooling for three other seminarians outside of the family. [snip] St Cloud Visitor/Catholic.org
