Watch for the Rose Vestments on Laetare Sunday
Next Sunday, the Fourth Sunday of Lent has traditionally been called "Laetare Sunday" taken from the first Latin word of the Introit chant Laetare Jerusalem (Rejoice O Jerusalem and gather round all you who love her. . .). As we mark the penitential weeks of Lent, we celebrate the liturgy of this Sunday with a more joyous tone, including prelude and postlude music, and presidential prayers which include images articulating the "joyful season of Lent." That's a new one on me. I've heard of Gaudete Sunday (3rd? Sunday of Advent) where rose vestments are worn, but can't recall ever seeing similar during lent. I'll be looking for it.
As an aside, I'm in the Twin Cities are too and Mitchell should be forwarding you (Ray) a note from me. There doesn't appear to be a link to an email address anywhere on this site (at least that I can find.

Laetare and Gaudete Sundays are the two Sundays of the Church year on which rose vestments may be worn. However, many parishes and priest are not able to afford vestments for twice a year occasions.
But they are beautiful!
