Boys of Summer Enjoy Fellowship and Fun in Softball League

.

Every Wednesday evening during the summer, more than 300 Catholic men in the Slo-Timers League descend upon softball diamonds throughout St. Paul.

The league — for Catholic men in their 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s — has been going strong for more than 20 years and shows no signs of fading. Helping to guarantee that the league will continue to thrive is the vicar general of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, Father Kevin McDonough. Also the pastor of St. Peter Claver in St. Paul, he plays catcher for his parish team.

Currently, 10 parishes take part, fielding a total 22 teams. Some parishes have up to four teams. Nine of the 10 parishes are in St. Paul — Our Lady of Guadalupe, St. Peter Claver, Holy Spirit, St. Mark, Lumen Christi, St. Columba, Nativity of Our Lord, St. Francis and St. Luke. The other parish is St. Michael in West St. Paul. [snip]

Editors Note: Sliding into second in a fun time league when you win 25 to 9? Not for this old man!
