Dayton's: R.I.P.

.
Dayton's is truly gone!

After 23 years of bringing holiday joy to shoppers, Santa Bear is heading for retirement.

Macy’s announced Wednesday that this Christmas will be the last one for the popular holiday collectible made famous by the former Dayton’s department stores, which later became Marshall Field’s before Macy’s took over the chain.

Although Christmas is way over commercialized, it is sad that Macy's has ruined both Dayton's and Marshall Fields and is now sending poor ol' Santa Bear to the home for Misfit Toys. I wonder how long it will be before the headline is, "Macy's: RIP"

It's also sad how many salaries and people Macy's said it was going to cut. It's tragic how few regional department stores are left. There is nothing unique about shopping anymore. You can go anywhere in the U.S. and the stores are the same. Same merchandise, same brands-yawn. And analysts sit around and wonder why sales are down. It's not just the economy.

I'm really upset about Santa Bear too. The annual holiday and floral shows will be the next things to go-mark my words.
