Mary Jo Esslinger leaned forward and listened intently as Yvonne Kalka, known to the students as “Miss Yvonne,” explained the day’s lesson.
Even though people can be very different from each other, “God loves all of us the same,” Miss Yvonne told the children.
“If you can’t drive a car, does that mean you’re not special?” she asked. “No!” the children responded.
“No,” echoed Mary Jo. She paused, then added, “My mom can.”
“Do you know what else?” Miss Yvonne asked. “What?” Mary Jo responded for the children.
“God wants us to love each other,” Miss Yvonne said.
