Minnesota's Catholic bishops said Friday they were deeply disappointed that the full Minnesota Senate has not voted on a constitutional amendment to define marriage strictly as the union of one man and one woman.
On Tuesday, the majority of a Senate committee rejected the amendment, which would ban same-sex marriage. The amendment is still expected to be presented to the full Senate in some fashion before the end of the session. So far, senators have rejected efforts to put the amendment on the 2006 Election Day ballot.
"We urge Catholics and all people of good will to work with us to secure the meaning of marriage in the Minnesota Constitution as the union of a man and a woman," the seven Catholic bishops said in a news release sent to Minnesota newspapers Friday. PioneerPress
