A Prayer Vigil will be held at Regions Hospital, 640 Jackson Street in St. Paul from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, which immediately follows MCCL’s March For Life at the State Capitol.The March for Life begins at 12 noon on Monday, Jan. 22, at the State Capitol. January 22, 2007: Duluth will also have a March For Life at the Building For Women, 32 East 1st Street in Duluth from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm. An estimated 618 abortions were performed at this facility in 2005. There will also be a Candlelight Prayer Vigil at the Duluth Civic Center in front of the Courthouse from 7:00 pm to 7:45 pm.

In all the dioceses of the United States of America, shall be observed as a particular day of penance for violations to the dignity of the human person committed through acts of abortion, and of prayer for the full restoration of the legal guarantee of the right to life. The Mass “For Peace and Justice” (no. 22 of the “Masses for Various Needs”) should be celebrated with violet vestments as an appropriate liturgical observance for this day. We should also remind our readers that in all the dioceses of the United States, January 22nd is observed as a particular day of penance for violations to the dignity of the human person committed through acts of abortion, and of prayer for the full restoration of the legal guarantee of the right to life.

Although not mandatory, many parishes urge members to partake in fasting as part of this penance. This is not a message that is heard in all parishes, however, so people should be made aware of it now in order to make preparations should they so wish.

I'd like to note also to anyone interested that we will be having a Candlelight Vigil for Life out here at my parish, St. John the Baptist in Excelsior MN, on Sunday evening the 21st, beginning at 6:00pm. Following the vigil we will have some refreshments and Testimonies for Life in our parish hall. All, especially families, are welcome to join us!
